Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C).
Butter and flour a 9″x 5″ (23 cm x 12.5 cm) loaf pan.
In a bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Set aside.
Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition.
Stir in the dates and bananas, then the dry ingredients and the rum, and mix well.
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let it rest for 5 minutes in the pan before transferring it to a cooling rack.
