Prepare the syrup. Place all the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the fat and make a paste. Make a hole in the center, add the milk, and stir a little. Stretch the paste into a mold and pour the hot syrup over it. Cover and wait for the syrup to penetrate and the cake batter to rise to the surface.
Put in the oven at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes.
