Heat the oil in a medium saucepan and cook the onion for 5 minutes, until it softens and becomes lightly browned. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the tomatoes and sugar, bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce and season to taste. This basic sauce can now be refrigerated or frozen.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Preheat the grill to high heat. Mix the cheese and breadcrumbs.
Drain the pasta and mix it with the sauce. Add the sliced Frankfurter sausages and pour everything into a heat-resistant dish. Sprinkle with the cheese and breadcrumb mixture and grill for 3 to 5 minutes, or until it bubbles and starts to brown. Serve with a green salad.
